How did you use media technologies in the construction, research and planning and evaluation stages?1/7/2017 We have used the software Excel to create graphs for the data we found within our evaluation, where we carried out a mini questionnaire, as a way of getting some audience feedback about our final music video. From these results we have been able to identify areas that we could improve on, if we were to do this project again. Powerpoint has also been used within the planning stage of this project, for example we used this software to present our pitch-presentation to the class. From this we also gained feedback on our initial idea for our music video, which meant that we had to re-think our idea and edit our powerpoint before putting it up on our blog. Additionally we have also used a powerpoint to present the findings from our evaluation question 3. Word has been used to create the grid for question one that included the codes and conventions in which we feel we have conformed and challenged. Final cut pro is a software that we have used to edit our test shots and our whole music video. Overall this software has allowed us to edit our footage, so that it is more pristene. This also has enabled us to add special effects on certain clips, for example the clips we had shot in low lighting could be edited so that the mise en scene was more visible (e.g. artist and demons dancing against a white background). Additionally when the lip syncing was not in sync with the song, also the software allowed us to either speed up or slow down the footage, so that it would match the song. We have used the IMac 2009 hardware throughout all stages of our project. For example in the research stage, we used the internet available on the hardware. We used photoshop when planning and creating our practise digi-pak. Additionally we used imovie to create an animatic storyboard to get a brief idea of what our music video will look like. To carry out our evaluation we used the imac to upload our different evaluation questions, for example uploading pictures of our powerpoint onto weebly. Overall the IMac computer is easy to navigate around and is easy to use overall. In order to organise the days that we were going to film, we used the iphone 6, which has whatsapp on it. This was our means of communication with one another and the dancers. We also used the torchlight on the iphone 6 when we were filming in dark lighting. For example, when the demons and the artist are dancing against a brick wall background. Additionally we used the iphone 6 camera to take pictures of the possible locations, that we could have used within our music video, which we used in the planning stage within the location report. We used the Canon G-10 camera to record our film footage and the test shots. We used this camera, as the footage we got from it was of high quality, which made our overall music video of a better standard. We used an online software called 'Weebly' to upload and create blogs relating to all of the stages involved in the overall creation of our music video. This website has allowed us to upload pictures and videos that could then be accompanied with descriptive detail of what the picture or video is in relation to the stage of the project; what it contributed to our overall project(e.g. whether we decided to include or exclude specific aspects that we discovered by carrying out our research). We have used the online software called 'Youtube' to carry out research, by copying past A level Students music videos and official music videos onto weebly and analysing them in relation to the mise en scene, editing and camerawork used. Additionally we have had to create our own YouTube account, so that we could upload our final music video.

For our target audience feedback, we asked some of our peers to watch our music video and then to answer some questions in relation to our production. The video below shows three members of our target audience watching our music video for the first time: The video below is of members of our target audience answering questions about what they thought about our music video. For our research and planning we familiarised ourselves with some codes and conventions of electro-pop music videos, by watching them. The music videos we watched and analysed are; Avicii ‘The Nights’, Chris Brown ‘5 more hours’ and Calvin Harris ‘Summer’. We also identified codes and conventions from past students music videos. We watched the A2 music video for ‘Problem’ by Ariana Grande, ‘Chandelier’ by Sia and ‘See you again’ by Charlie Put and Wiz Kalifa.
Question one: In what ways does your media product use codes and conventions, challenge forms and conform real media products? Codes and conventions are symbols that create meaning to the audience. To answer this question in the best way possible we will do research on codes and conventions of electro-pop music videos. We will then decide if we conform or challenge them and furthermore we will explain why we challenged or conformed the conventions. As there are three main points we were able to agree on answering the question in the form of a grid as it breaks up the information and it will be easy to understand and it is creative as no other media group is using a grid. The grid will be digitally uploaded on to the blog. Question two: How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks? (Magazine advert and CD cover design) For question two we had many ideas on how to present the ideas in a creative way such as evaluating the ancillary tasks on a white board whilst recording however, the audience may not have been able to read the evaluation and may not be able to see the magazine advert or CD cover design. So we the thought of presenting the question on or a word document however, it would be too basic. Then we finally decided to present the question as a storybook on PowerPoint. Although this is simple it is also affective as there will be a link to the music video so the audience will be able to watch the video before the evaluation and there will also be images of the CD cover design and the magazine advert. Question three: What have you learnt from the audience feedback? For this question we wanted to represent the answers using charts so the information is easy to read and understand. We decided to create an animatic presentation answering the questions that we had asked the audience after they had watched the music video, we did this by giving them mini questionnaires to fill out. We will then show the information as an animatic video towards then end of the video we will show what we have learnt from their feedback and what we would do if we were to do this again. Question four: How did you use media technologies in the construction, research and planning and evaluation stages? This question requires the need of a lot of information as we have to explain what media technologies we have used and why. At first we wanted to present our answer by using a time-lapse however, we realised that there was a lot of information and the video would be sped up so the audience would not know why we used the media technologies so we decided to answer the question in the way of an animatic story board as in the storyboard boxes we would have an image of what we used and use the lines for a short and detailed write up. Although, we are using the animatic video for question three this will be different as we are using as question three will only use images. Here is our first 30 seconds of our music video. We and intending to add in some titles which, display the name of the artist and the name of the song. There is a gap after the first two shots to include quick cuts the troubles that the artist faces later on in the music video.
Throughout the rest of the music video we going to be alternating between shots of lip syncing, narrative and performance based scenes. This is the front and back of the CD cover. The image used on the front cover is used to reflect the location used within our music video, and to highlight that the track 'Control' is the one we are advertising. We have used bold, capitalised font to make the song titles and album name stand out, however the contrast between the album name and the artists name also makes the artists name stand out. The titles 'BADLANDS HALSEY' and 'BADLANDS TRACKLIST', are in white font against a blue background, which stretches across the top of the front and back of the CD cover. The blue colour is used to represent the artist, as it is her colour, and is the colour of her hair. On the front CD cover we have used both blue and pink (a pastel coloured pink) and merged them near to the centre of the picture, to create a more interesting aesthetic. On the back there appears to be a tear in the white background, which is where the song titles are listed in bold, black text, so that it is easily readable. The torn/burnt effect is used to reflect the essence of the album, as it connotes negatively and disruption. This is linked to the fact that the artist suffers from mental disorders. On the centre strip of the CD cover, the album and the artists name is listed in bold, white text against a pastel pink and blue background, which carries over from the front cover. This is the CD. It's overall colour is pastel pink to represent the artist and show some relationship with the front cover. The title, text, boldness and colour of the artists and albums name, is copied over from the CD cover, again to show coherence with the CD cover. At the bottom of the CD in white is a logo, that belongs to the record label that Halsey belongs to. This is our final magazine advert. We decided due to the layout of the picture to not copy the layout of the text in our practise advert. Instead we made the artist the centre of the frame, and placed the artists name, single, album name and the date of the release at both the top and bottom of the advert in the centre frame. This enabled us to fill up the whole of the frame, without it appearing as if it is empty in places.
The font we used replicates the one we used on the CD cover, and alternates between bold capitalised text to thin capitalised text. The background we used was a brick wall, this was to link the magazine advert to the music video dance scenes, when the artist and the demons are dancing infront of a brick wall. We have also used a slight pink and blue gradient over the whole of the advert, as it links back to the CD cover and adds a great effect to the overall advert, drawing the audiences attention. The artists clothing in the advert is similar to the dancing scene in the music video(the one against the brick wall). We purposefully chose the release date for Winter 2017, as the music video takes place in the Winter and best matches the essence and emotion of the song 'Control' overall. This is our practice magazine advert for Halsey's album 'Badlands'. We have decided to share the publishing date of the advert and a website address for more information. The majority of the advert is an image of Halsey performing on stage. On the left ahnd side there is the name of the album in bold white text, her name and the name of the single we are advertsing is in a bold pastel colour pink font. We chose the pastel pink colour as she is known to use this colour.
For our actual magazine advert we will have the artist that is in our music video wearing the blue wig and wearing similar clothes to what she would normally wear. We will also advertise the artist more and her hit single more by including relase dates and more information. |
