What is the Rule of Thirds? The rule of thirds is when the image is broken down into 9 different parts. It is used to show the importance of what the photograph contains. If there was a picture of a person and the person is in the middle of the shot, your eyes are immediately drawn to the person instead of the background, making the person the most important part to the photograph. Where as if the person is at the side of the photograph and the background in the middle of the shot, then your eyes would be drawn to the background instead of the person, making the background the most important part of the picture.
