![]() In order to get an idea of how we would want to design a film poster for our thriller we as a group decided to look at different film posters and see what we would drift towards. We originally wanted to do a psychological thriller, but we as a group thought that we should at least look at some other genres. The poster for the film 'The Conjuring' automatically allows the audience to see what genre this film is. It is a horror thriller and the mise'en'scene used to create this poster demonstrates elements and has connotations of a horror film. The poster art is taken outside of a house which seems to be in the middle of no where. This has connotations of fear and loneliness which sets the impress of the genre as horror. There is an enigma because who ever sees this poster would question why the house is in the middle of no where and what is suggests; this would make someone wan to watch this and see the outcome. The camera lens is set further away from the house so you can see the tree. The house is surrounded by fog which has connotations of something overwhelming and could suggest fear seeping in. Rule of thirds is used in this because the house is hidden a little in the shot due to the fog. The tree has a rope on it that looks like it is for hanging someone. This adds mystery to the film before you even watch it. You can even see the shadow of someone's feet in the right hand corner of the poster. It created an eerie effect to the piece because shows that the film involves a ghost or some form of paranormal activity. The lighting in this is also very dark and shadowed which contributes the effect of this. The leaves scattered everywhere in contribution with the fog just gives this an overwhelming feeling. However I also just noticed that the leaves look slightly dead and the atmosphere seems very dead an d the only use of real colour is on the grass which is sort of unexpected; you would expect the grass to be a little dead or something. This could suggest that nothing is as it seems.

You are not meant to "drift towards" anything - you are meant to use your research to "inform" your own production - change the wording.
