We decided to give out 10 questionnaires to people around our chosen age audience. this helped us to get a idea of what to include in our opening sequence that we know the audience will like for example we known hey like to be disorientated when watching thriller films.
As a group we decided to shoot film our opening sequence at an 'Xstudios' member's house which, would be used a Camilla's house. We decided to use Jenna's house because everyone who was available to film is able to get there and the actresses are also able to get there. We will mainly be using the bedroom and we will turn it into a stalkers room which the room allows us to do as it is a good size.
We also considered to film in a hotel room however it would be hard to access and it would not look like a typical teenagers room. We feel that the better option is using Jenna's house as it is local and convenient. Camilla is the opposite to any other character in the sequence she is clever, obsessive and dependent on Serena however, she has split personalities when she is around others she tries to fit in by wearing casual clothes but tends to be dark and dull coloured clothes as she is very troubled behind her smile. Below is the outfit she will be wearing in our opening sequence. This juxtaposes with serena pure white outfit to show their differences.
Serena is very stereotypical girly teenager she is mature, intelligent and independent however, is completely oblivious to the situation that she finds herself towards the end of the opening sequence. Below is the outfit she will be expected to wear throughout the opening sequence to show that she is very friendly and outgoing and dressed like a normal teenager would as this is quite casual and plain colours paired with trainers.
As a group we thought it was important to know our target audience.
As a group we have decided that our thriller would be aimed at both males and females (but mostly female) from the age of 15 to 21. We have decided that our age chosen age group would be able to relate to the plot of a teenage girls being stalked. The age group is from 15 and above because it may contain graphic scenes, violence and offensive language which would not be suitable for younger viewers. As a group we think that people over the age of 21 may not be interested in the storyline or genre of the film and the people over the age of 21 will no longer be able to relate to the teenage life. As a group we decided that it would be effective to link the production name to the plot, as it would make more sense and catch the target audience. The name developed from the word ‘secret’ we decided to go with dark secret as it sounds mysterious and the plot sub genre of the plot is mystery. The name is also affected as it does not give away too much information and can really grab the attention of the audience and it makes them want to know what the secret is.
I decide to do a blog on how we got our ideas and what inspired us to create our opening sequence. We were inspired for our opening sequence by waterloo road a British television drama series set in a comprehensive school. We like the idea of a teenage/school life and how the characters are shown as stereotypical teenagers this really gives an insight on what teenagers are like in school to the older viewers which we would hope to show to the people of the older age in our target age group. We have also been inspired by the whole plot of the movie; the boy next door. It is of the same thriller genre of mystery/stalker. The plot has not only inspired us so has the film poster it has given us ideas on how to shows the contrast in characters. Whilst doing research on opening sequences I came across the opening sequence of se7en the film opening sequence. It is a crime thriller and people don’t entirely know what’s going on which builds the tension and suspense. This has inspired us and we have identified techniques such as picture cuttings and will be showing this in our opening sequence. We decided that it was important to know our type of audience and who we need to attract so I decided to create an audience profile.
Using the BBFC organisation we have decided that the audience would be between the age range of 15 and above because the opening sequence may contain graphic scenes, violence and offensive language which, would not be suitable for the viewers under the age of 15. Our thriller is aimed at both male and females however, we feel that the female viewers will be able to relate to our thriller film as our actors would be female and they will easily relate to the storyline as it is about a teenage girl being stalked. By using the social demographics table we have realised that out audience would fit between the grades of C2 to E as it relates to the teenage life and the viewers are most likely of being unskilled workers or unemployed therefore they would have more spare time to watch the movies and be able to relate as the characters are under education and do not work. People in the grade C1 are most likely to watch it on TV at a later release. The group and I think it is important to know who we want to produce our film, dark secret. We have chosen universal as the institution to produce our film. The conglomerate is part of the ‘big six’ in film production and has produced many successful thrillers such as, despicable me movies, fast and furious. They also produced Jurassic world, which is the third highest grossing film of all time. The conglomerate has also been able to create many successful franchises, which, attracts us to the idea of having universal produce our film. As a group we all like and watch many other films produced by universal as they are able to create a realistic feel to the movies and are able to target the audience. Which is what we aim to do as well as creating a new and original story line. Therefore, I think that universal is the most suitable institution to produce our film. |
