As a group we decided that it would be effective to link the production name to the plot, as it would make more sense and catch the target audience. The name developed from the word ‘secret’ we decided to go with dark secret as it sounds mysterious and the plot sub genre of the plot is mystery. The name is also affected as it does not give away too much information and can really grab the attention of the audience and it makes them want to know what the secret is.

I decide to do a blog on how we got our ideas and what inspired us to create our opening sequence. We were inspired for our opening sequence by waterloo road a British television drama series set in a comprehensive school. We like the idea of a teenage/school life and how the characters are shown as stereotypical teenagers this really gives an insight on what teenagers are like in school to the older viewers which we would hope to show to the people of the older age in our target age group. We have also been inspired by the whole plot of the movie; the boy next door. It is of the same thriller genre of mystery/stalker. The plot has not only inspired us so has the film poster it has given us ideas on how to shows the contrast in characters. Whilst doing research on opening sequences I came across the opening sequence of se7en the film opening sequence. It is a crime thriller and people don’t entirely know what’s going on which builds the tension and suspense. This has inspired us and we have identified techniques such as picture cuttings and will be showing this in our opening sequence. We decided that it was important to know our type of audience and who we need to attract so I decided to create an audience profile.
Using the BBFC organisation we have decided that the audience would be between the age range of 15 and above because the opening sequence may contain graphic scenes, violence and offensive language which, would not be suitable for the viewers under the age of 15. Our thriller is aimed at both male and females however, we feel that the female viewers will be able to relate to our thriller film as our actors would be female and they will easily relate to the storyline as it is about a teenage girl being stalked. By using the social demographics table we have realised that out audience would fit between the grades of C2 to E as it relates to the teenage life and the viewers are most likely of being unskilled workers or unemployed therefore they would have more spare time to watch the movies and be able to relate as the characters are under education and do not work. People in the grade C1 are most likely to watch it on TV at a later release. The group and I think it is important to know who we want to produce our film, dark secret. We have chosen universal as the institution to produce our film. The conglomerate is part of the ‘big six’ in film production and has produced many successful thrillers such as, despicable me movies, fast and furious. They also produced Jurassic world, which is the third highest grossing film of all time. The conglomerate has also been able to create many successful franchises, which, attracts us to the idea of having universal produce our film. As a group we all like and watch many other films produced by universal as they are able to create a realistic feel to the movies and are able to target the audience. Which is what we aim to do as well as creating a new and original story line. Therefore, I think that universal is the most suitable institution to produce our film. I decided to plan what we could do for our film poster by looking at lots of triller posters and seeing what they had in common, the sort of things I looked for were characters, props, colours, title and mise-en-scene. By taking all of this information we will therefore be able to make a really good film poster with lots of thriller elements.
This is a brief explanation of how we came up with our production name, we did come up with it through a group discussion but we didn't record the discussion so therefore we wrote it down to show you on the blog.
Above is our film poster this has been created for our opening sequence as from past re search we found that most mysterious/stalker thriller films have got dark coloured images and horror elements. This poster goes with the plot of our opening sequence because certain elements leads to the character finding out the dark secret.
I decided to do a timeline on the opening sequence for the film Skyfall, because it is very well known and popular also the opening sequence was long and also had a lot of information and action. From our survey we have found out that people like the thriller sub genre we chose and people enjoy watching them. We also found out when people tend to watch thriller films often. This survey has also helped us to know how different thriller films effect the audience and which sub genre they enjoy the most. the audience are mostly affected by disorientated shots as this confuses them and makes them feel the characters pain. We have also found out what the audience attracts the audience to watching the film, they find surprising twists and the settings appealing to watch. From our survey we have found out that people prefer a good story line that unfolds slowly as the film goes on. The survey has and will affect our production as we have listened to what the audience liked and points are and have tried to in coperate that into our own for example, people have said that the setting is important and most appealing so we have tired our best to make our setting look as realistic as possible as well as creating an effective mise en scene.
