How does your task represent particular social groups? In our opening scene, we have included two characters of different ages but the same ethnicity and gender. The main character is a male character of twenty two where he experiences flash backs of his childhood, making the change in age necessary but essential for the ethnicity and gender to remain the same. This mostly links to a target audience of 15-25 years olds where they can relate to the main character’s actions and attitudes. The two different social groups are clearly very different, represented by costume and behaviour.
For our opening scene, we used GarageBand to compose and construct various music pieces that would suggest themes of a thriller and add a suspenseful build up. Through developing the piece, we've often changed the music to match the scene more closely.
This is our film poster for our thriller film. We looked at other current film posters like The Purge to see what to include. We included the title, a tagline, an age rating, a release date, our institution name and a social media link. Overall we are very happy with our film poster as we think it looks professional and the font and the main picture works well together.
We decided to make a film poster to help advertise our film. If the film poster looks interesting, it will entice someone to come and see the film. It is a good way to show the genre of the film to our target audience. We used the teddy bear as it is the main prop in the film, so it would be a memorable part of the film. We wanted a photo of the bear as it symbolises the innocence of the child in the film, but also the destruction of the innocence as we destroyed the bear. We experimented with different settings for the photo, including against a wall, a tree and a white background. We decided to use the wall as the final picture as we felt it looked the best, and the bear contrasted well against the red brick. We have tried editing the picture in different ways, using two different editing programs to see the effects we like. These are the possible film posters we came up with. Our story is quite dark, so we explored dark colourings and focused the attention on different parts of the poster to come up with something we all liked. The use of the teddy bear has strong links with our opening sequence as it is the main prop.
For the main prop of our opening scene, as well as the subject for our film poster, we had to manipulate a teddy bear to make it look worn and old. We used the teddy bear to symbolise the innocence of the child in our piece. The use of the worn, dirty teddy symbolises his innocence being destroyed.
We went out to purchase a teddy bear that we could use for a prop in our production. we chose one that is not too big, but not too small so it would be easy to use. Having a teddy that is too large may distract from the actor in our scene, and take away from what is going on. A teddy that is too small may not be as noticeable to the audience watching it. We will feature this teddy bear in our film poster as it is one of the main focuses of the film.
We took some inspiration from the opening scene of an episode of Once Upon A Time [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndot6rngE-E] where there were a few features that we decided to include. These are features such as a childhood toy [a teddy bear/a kite] where it becomes broken, foreshadowing a dark event. Another is the children playing in the forest in daylight where it should be a cheerful scene but there is something hidden, watching them. Like in our opening scene, this includes the antagonist [or in our case, the shadow] appearing from behind a tree. Both this opening scene and our opening scene ends with a close up on the young child's face before flashing forward to present day on a close up of the older person’s face.
