After analysing some film posters, we decided that it would be a good idea to create a film poster as it would give us an insight into the horror - thriller genre that we focused on before we actually began our opening sequence.

During our filming we took a few experimental shots for our poster and film piece, here are some of the experimental photographs.
From the shots taken earlier using Muzzy I experimented using effects to create a more sinister look and they turned out successful.
this is the logo for dark castle entertainment which was a production house affiliated with Warner Bros. It made nearly a dozen film from 1999 to 2013 and I decided to include it as our piece shall be a horror thriller and in order to get inspiration for our chosen company, we focused on dark, suspenseful film industries. we looked at two horror logos that would link in to our actual piece. this is the logo for Jerry Bruckheimer productions is a film/television company that has produced many films from 1972 to 2014 including horrors and other genres. i looked at this as it relates to our piece as we are focusing on dark logo ideas and this motion picture logo is quite fast paced and quick but equally dark and scary therefore we took it as a form of inspiration for our logo.
We explored different sounds and iconography that we could inlclude in our piece. Things such as a hooting owl, a creaky door and footsteps. This clip ellaborates on our ideas. We all allocated ourselves with two different thriller genres and we brainstormed ideas of what we would focus on for our film opening. I looked at film noir opening sequences and found that the opening music is quite ominous and the scene is misty and suspenseful. An example is the film Rebecca by Alfred Hitchcock which is a suspenseful horror about a mysterious death and the director looks into it through out the film. Throughout the opening sequence, there is an eerie mist upon the grounds of the manor. This adds to the suspense and mystery as it is difficult to see clearly. The writing gradually appears and then disappears which gives the element of mystery and surprise as the writing disappears, leaving a ghostly trail of mist behind it. The soundtrack constantly changes from high pitched to low pitched. This shows how it isn't a calm and flowing film and their is a mystery and change in it. The opening sequence is quite plain which juxtaposes the film as a lot happens. This has been done deliberately so that the film comes as a surprise to the audience. The font of writing is in a bold colour and the writing is quite large which connotes a warning, as if something/someone is dangerous which foreshadows Michael Myers, the murderous psycho in the film. The pumpkin is a typical convention of Halloween and it represents that the film will be of a spooky, horror genre. The pumpkin is carved with a smile which is ambiguous as it may foreshadow that children will be targeted because in the film, teenagers are being hunted. However it could also suggest a sense of deception as pumpkins are meant to send away evil however in this film, the murderer uses the night of Halloween as a cover of him to kill his victims.
We were unsure as to what thriller we wanted to focus on for our piece so we explored the various different genres within thriller films.

![]() This is a close up of Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lector in the horror thriller Hannibal. The image makes the man look quite dangerous as his eyes are focused directly into the camera, almost as if the killer is looking at the audience. This builds up tension as the killer is peering at the viewer. the affect of having the killer behind bars and the bars being in the foreground show how the killer is imprisoned but the affect of having the bars as blurry makes them look as though they are fragile and can break easily, meaning that the killer is able to escape, which he does later on in the film. ![]() In Thriller films the camera is usually focused on the protagonists expressions and body language. Angles such as facial close up shots and mid – range shots. An example of a close up was used in a film called Band of Brothers, in the film there is a close up of the mans face after he has been shot, showing that he is in pain. Band of Brothers was made in 2001.The focus on emotions and body language helps to show tension, and helps the audience to feel as if they are in the film and gets them to start asking questions. Another Camera Movement is tracking, this is a fast paced camera movement, which can also be known as a Dolly shot or just a Dolly. These shots have been used in films such as Goodfellas, where the camera is quickly tracking through the kitchen of the Copacabana. This film was created by Martin Scorsese in 1990 .This makes the audience more tense, nervous and makes their heart beat fast, as they know that something may happen next due to the fast pace. This 'thrilling' feeling is commonly found in Thrillers. Before we decide on the style of our opening sequence we need to understand what exactly a thriller is. A Thriller could be a novel, play or film which revolves around anticipation and suspense. The main aim of a Thriller genre is to keep the audience alert and at the edge of their seats. The leading character(s) is usually given a problem which they have to solve such as a mystery, an escape or a mission. Even though Thrillers may have sub genres for example psychological thrillers, the protagonist always faces some form of danger. the tension builds up gradually throughout the film and leads up to an edgy climax.
