Having minimal knowledge of our editing program Final cut pro when compiling our footage of the preliminary task together, the standard of editing was poor. You can see this as we have not cut some clips short enough and some cuts where untidy. Since doing this, i have learnt how to successfully edit on final Cut Pro and ensure the finished cut has much as professional look as is possible. I have also learnt how to show a relation between two characters through placing cuts together. This was relation two chactors though placing cuts together . This was vey important because film our genre was horror and we wanted to great a scary atmosphere for our audiences as the girl walked through the park and the other person watched her talk on the phone. Our thriller opening sequence was much more better then from our preliminary task this was because we have put lots of effort in our filming and researching.
The filming took us a longer time then what we have expected we made a time plan on when what times we were going to film however because of the weather it took us longer to shoot and sometimes we had to film it twice so we could get the best lighting and use different angles so we appeal all the connotations of a horror genre. This was different from our preliminary task as we shot it in a small period of time and using our school location instead of outdoors or other locations. From learning from our progression from our preliminary task we have used other locations to film our horror opening sequence so the atmosphere looks scary . The editing also took us a longer time as we were new to the software and longer better effects to add because of our chosen theme (horror-thriller) I believe looking back at our preliminary task we have progressed a lot, we have made massive improvements on our editing skills and sound effects. This was because we have made a great research on our thriller- horror genre which was looking at other films and evaluating the camera skills, the miese- en scene and also at sound affects. As a group we have also analysed our preliminary task and other past As opening sequences. These all benefited us to make a horror thriller opening as we had a clear idea on what we needed to do to get all the codes and the convictions. Below is a YouTube clip of our opening sequence Coercion annotated demonstrating the different elements through our final piece which would appeal to our target audience. Elements including sound, mise en scene , traits of our horror thriller genre , editing and camera that would captivates audiences attention. Evaluation - What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? Tanya3/1/2015 Below is a animation embedded in a YouTube clip I created demonstrating the types of institutions that would distribute our film. This was created using VideoScribe. One difficulty we was faced with was the dog (coco) by his lack of attention he was giving us. It took several minutes for him to get used to our actors and to control his constant barking and exitment when we placed a tripod in front of him. He was extremely disturbed as he was afraid of its shape. However it did take some time for him to get used to it and fortunatley his obedience improved due to its owner help and overall did achieve to get some of the actions roles we wanted. Here are some 'behind the scenes' of coco training for our piece: We used the approach of viral marketing, via Twitter. Twitter is a popular global social networking service that enables users read and write short tweets. As conglomerates use these approach of advertisement, we crated a Twitter page to advertise our film 'Coercion'.
I have been hunting for a dog suitable for our opening sequence , in my neighborhood there are many dog owners for whom I am familiar with and asked to use their dogs for our opening sequence and have been contemplating the suitable dog type to connote genre. All owners kindly agreed for their dog to be used and pictured. Here are some of the dogs to choose from... As we chose to use coco for our opening sequence we faced with a dilemma of the available dates for when the dog owner is free for us to use her dog , therefore there was some struggles to get the right date to use coco , however we managed to get a date which suited all of us as some of us were busy.
In our opening sequence we are including a guarding dog of which belongs to the character (Bethany) as she is walking along the pavement she will have her companion (dog) along side with her. A big dog prevents someone from entering your property, and as they they look intimidating and scary and have potential to do damage to someone. They bark if they sense any unusual events occurring so the owner can react and hoping for the intruder to leave. By having a big guarding dog would connote that Bethany is not alone and will be in trouble and so the audience would detect that she will be attacked later on in the film. Using a big dog symbolizes protection and hunting as dogs has a more effective senses than humans, so I suggested to include a dog which will be in use for our film opening. they look intimidating and scary and have potential to do damage to someone This is what big guarding dogs are associated with... This is an example of a the dog in Paranormal Activity sense the supernatural spirit inside the house and its reactions to it. From this we want to use the similar approach in our opening scene for a dog detecting something unusual and reacting by barking as this connotes there is something wrong.
