Together as a group we had a brain storm meeting on deciding the name of our production. We recorded our ideas and finally decided the name on 'Nail Biting productions' . We chose this name as it appears gripping, when suggesting the possible names we all thought about the genre suited for our target audience as well as the typical reactions to horror - thrillers. We contemplated with: Teeth churning, edge of seat, shaking, screaming etc overall we thought nail biting loomed impressive. We looked at some images which given inspiration for our logo. The final logo lookThis is the outcome of Nail biting productions logo design, which will be embedded in our intro for out final opening sequence. Our production introduction videoFor our logo to appear effective, I have used adobe after effects to create a short 10 seconds intro for our institution to appear. Using music maker sound effects is embedded with in the introduction. We had a discussion together coming up with ideas for our opening sequence and brainstormed and inputing all our ideas together. This was a huge success because it really helped, as everyone suggested really good ideas for our sequence and we took most of them into account for our final production sequence.
This is our brainstorm Recently we have been discussing our opening sequence on Whats App as a group. After analysing some film posters, we decided that it would be a good idea to create a film poster as it would give us an insight into the horror - thriller genre that we focused on before we actually began our opening sequence.we had a lesson in class of the different narratives in media we looked at uses and gratifications theory by Blumler and Katz.
Blumler and Katz holds a theory that places more focus on the consumer, or audience, instead of the actual message itself by asking “what people do with media” rather than “what media does to people” . It assumes that members of the audience are not passive but take an active role in interpreting and integrating media into their own lives. The theory also holds that audiences are responsible for choosing media to meet their needs. From this we can apply this to which gratification we will be aiming for. From the shots taken earlier using Muzzy I experimented using effects to create a more sinister look and they turned out successful.
From analysing with the modern posters we decided to look at the different codes and conventions of vintage horror- thriller posters. As they portray different colours and format such as tile appearing in bright abstract colours and diagonally presented to appeal to the audience. From researching vintage posters expands our knowledge of types of thriller posters other than just the modern horror- thrillers.
