One difficulty we was faced with was the dog (coco) by his lack of attention he was giving us. It took several minutes for him to get used to our actors and to control his constant barking and exitment when we placed a tripod in front of him. He was extremely disturbed as he was afraid of its shape. However it did take some time for him to get used to it and fortunatley his obedience improved due to its owner help and overall did achieve to get some of the actions roles we wanted. Here are some 'behind the scenes' of coco training for our piece: We used the approach of viral marketing, via Twitter. Twitter is a popular global social networking service that enables users read and write short tweets. As conglomerates use these approach of advertisement, we crated a Twitter page to advertise our film 'Coercion'.
I have been hunting for a dog suitable for our opening sequence , in my neighborhood there are many dog owners for whom I am familiar with and asked to use their dogs for our opening sequence and have been contemplating the suitable dog type to connote genre. All owners kindly agreed for their dog to be used and pictured. Here are some of the dogs to choose from... As we chose to use coco for our opening sequence we faced with a dilemma of the available dates for when the dog owner is free for us to use her dog , therefore there was some struggles to get the right date to use coco , however we managed to get a date which suited all of us as some of us were busy.
During our brainstorm ,for our opening sequence we wanted to get an insight of all the connotations of a stalker to guide us on how we would dress our stalker and how our audience can easily identify we have a stalker in our film. So I did some research and pitched it to my peers and all decided on what costume we will use. Here are some of the images of typical stalker traits: one common stereotype uphold ed by stalkers , is that female tend to almost always be the victim of being stalked and so we applied this stereotype illusion in our opening sequence. Furthermore the stalkers costume usually consists of wearing hoodies and jackets and so this helped us choose our costume for stalkers to be dressed in. The assumption I make is that the reason for stalkers dressing up in camouflage jackets/hoodies is to remain hidden and unnoticed , which we essentially want to show in our opening piece.
In our opening sequence we are including a guarding dog of which belongs to the character (Bethany) as she is walking along the pavement she will have her companion (dog) along side with her. A big dog prevents someone from entering your property, and as they they look intimidating and scary and have potential to do damage to someone. They bark if they sense any unusual events occurring so the owner can react and hoping for the intruder to leave. By having a big guarding dog would connote that Bethany is not alone and will be in trouble and so the audience would detect that she will be attacked later on in the film. Using a big dog symbolizes protection and hunting as dogs has a more effective senses than humans, so I suggested to include a dog which will be in use for our film opening. they look intimidating and scary and have potential to do damage to someone This is what big guarding dogs are associated with... This is an example of a the dog in Paranormal Activity sense the supernatural spirit inside the house and its reactions to it. From this we want to use the similar approach in our opening scene for a dog detecting something unusual and reacting by barking as this connotes there is something wrong.
The stalkers diary is a major part of our piece as it reveals a lot about the stalker and protagonist. We looked at quite a few diaries and evaluated each of them:
Music plays an important role in thriller films. While well crafted sound design and sound effects are very necessary in the creation of a film because music touches the emotions , the psyche, the things that you cannot see without music it would be more difficult to follow the emotions up and down of a film. Much more difficult to experience the fear and the tense atmosphere.
